Rooftop Beatles

With Beatles: Rock Band coming out and all sorts of revamped BeatleMania going on these days, its hard not to think about how awesome this band really was. Of course, most people agree they we’re a really good band, but it seems as though (for me at least) I was simply told they were good from childhood and went with that. I never really thought about why there were truly so good. For a while, I even rebelled against society and thought that The Beatles were ‘just ok’. I know, crazy right?

Although I wasn’t a huge fan for some time, I couldn’t argue the fact that they do have some really great songs, some of my favorite songs in fact. And then I started to make an aggressive choice to listen to them more and learn more about them. The second part of this task was quite easy since there seems to be an unlimited amount of information on the planet’s favorite band ever. Listening to the band wasn’t particularly hard either, but it did require me to think more about why this band is what it is.

I think part of what makes The Beatles so important and special and awesome is just the fact that they were the first in so many ways. For a large part, music like that of The Beatles didn’t exist before them. They kind of invented some of this music, which today seems so normal and common. Today, I listen to a song like Get Back and think, “Yeah, its a sweet song, but I feel like I know it already”, but back in 1969, I probably would have thought something more like, “OH MAN, THIS IS FLIPPING AWESOME”.

This may not really be news to anyone, but what I really wanted to convey in this post, is the video I have included below of their rooftop concert. It was their last time playing together live. So, that’s pretty chill. After I watched this, I just kind of thought that no matter what you think of The Beatles, however much you love them or not, this outdoor concert is one of the cooler things ever to happen in music or in pop culture. I’ve included the first of three parts someone posted on youtube. The 2nd and 3rd part can be found in the “related videos” on the side.

Really… just so ace.
